Position Description

The Assistant Director, Community Engagement is responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing Community Relations program that appropriately and consistently promotes the University of Michigan Athletic Department with our internal and external constituents. The individual in this position will effectively and efficiently manage all ticket and memorabilia requests and distribution as well as speaking engagement and appearance requests.

In addition, the individual in this position must sustain positive and mutually-rewarding relations between the Athletic Department and various community organizations; partner with Athletic Department leadership and coaches to determine the best strategies for community engagement and donor stewardship efforts; maintain ongoing and active networking with internal and external constituencies; and provide assistance, as necessary, to the rest of the Athletic Development team.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

- Create, execute and manage all of the Athletic Department's community relations and outreach programs.
- Manage ticket and donated and/or autographed memorabilia inventory and track donations.
- Respond in a timely and professional manner to donation letters/inquiries and general fan mail.
- Serve as the liaison between the Athletic Development team and the UM Alumni Association, the University Health System and other university units for all autograph and speaking requests.
- Partner with Marketing and Public/Media Relations as appropriate.
- Support and communicate the Athletic Department's mission and message to internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate all marketing collateral materials and website information as it relates to community partner initiatives.
- Create and implement an Athletic Department speaker's bureau that organizes and supports all speaking requests for the Athletic Director and coaches in a thoughtful and systematic way.
- Create and coordinate the development and production of the Community Engagement Report.
- Create and maintain a Community Engagement database.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development.

Required Qualifications

- A bachelor's degree is required with a minimum of three to five years experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in development, stewardship, community relations, advancement services or related field.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans and programs that support the Athletic Department mission and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the fundraising program.
- Professional demeanor both in-person and through written communication with fans of all ages, donors, sponsors, game day guests, coaches, staff and Student Athletes.
- Proven skills and ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have extreme attention to detail, a high level of organization, the ability to be focused and goal-oriented, and a high level of initiative and energy.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience using sound judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact.
- Ability to handle and coordinate large groups of people in a secure and sensitive area.
- Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Possession and demonstration of the highest level of integrity and ethical standards
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
