Position Description

LSA Development, Marketing and Communications seeks a Development Events Specialist who will plan and implement events that build and enhance relationships with alumni, prospects and donors to the College's development campaign priorities, special giving initiatives, and donor recognition, stewardship, and outreach activities. This position will participate in the shared services model by which DMC will hire and train an events specialist that will focus on LSA Department Development events along with LSA Development Events.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

On an annual basis, the development events specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing LSA departmental development events such as distinguished lectures, academic conferences and alumni/donor receptions, dinners, seminars, etc. Works closely with staff to ensure the timely, effective and accurate development of event materials including print and digital communications. Manages all invitation lists, RSVPs and venue, food and beverage selections, audio/visual/technical needs, transportation and other event details. Provides on-site management of University service departments and external vendors. Provides high level donor and media relations, as needed. Provides budget projections for development events, reconciles and evaluates final event budgets. Manages the creation of event materials such as invitations, program booklets, and flyers and disseminates via mail and email as well as maintaining related materials on our website. Manages the creation of events-related articles. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous event planning/management experience.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Able to navigate through a stressful environment.
  • Understanding of a computer-based alumni and/or donor data management systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work outside the normal weekday, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Extensive computer literacy, especially with databases, internet, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to balance priorities and to work under pressure.
  • Careful attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Some knowledge of the University organizational policies, rules, regulations, procurement and purchasing is desired.
