Position Description

The Stewardship Director at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business is responsible for managing and leading a best-of-class Donor Relations and Stewardship effort for the School. Through leadership of the team, the Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction, success, and implementation of all donor relations activities and the successful stewardship of supporters of the School across the spectrum from donors to the Annual Fund to those who create endowments in support of the School. The ability to think creatively and strategically are key attributes of the person in this position. Duties will include creating strategies for excellence in stewarding donors; coordinating a wide variety of communications efforts including direct mail, electronic mail, web interfaces, and multi-media, to express appreciation for support; maintaining current and creating new stewardship events; and creating a development communications strategy and managing the overall development communications process. The Director will work closely with the Chief Development Officer to develop program plans, execute program activities and to supervise staff in these areas. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and will serve on the Leadership Team for Alumni Affairs and Development Office at the School.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Stewardship:
-- Plan, develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive stewardship program for the Ross School of Business. Serve as the School's representative on Central Development's Stewardship Committee.

Duties will include oversight and implementation of:
-- Annual reporting on endowment funds
-- Annual stewardship of endowed professorship donors
-- Acknowledgment letters for scholarship donors, memorial gifts, special gift funds, and annual giving
-- Annual report of donors ("Investors Report")
-- Assisting with the coordination of scholarship/recipient matching
-- Oversight and management of scholarship fund reporting
-- Serving as Development liaison on scholarship-related activity for OCD, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other units of the Ross School of Business and University of Michigan
-- Oversight and implementation of the annual Scholarship Dinner
-- Create stewardship strategies for each principal and major gift donor
-- Work with Major Gift Officers for creative ways to steward and thank major donors Development Communications
-- Manage the overall development communications efforts by managing a development communications writer including creating and coordinating Annual Fund Communications, standard and customized stewardship letters for donors, along with input from the Chief Development Officer create the case for support of the School for potential donors.

Other:
-- Serve at the request of the Chief Development Officer on special projects and/or task
forces

Required Qualifications

-- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing, public relations or communications is necessary.
-- Considerable progressively responsible experience in fundraising environment along with experience in program planning and coordination, volunteer leadership and management.
-- Experience in public speaking and the preparation of written communications with experience writing in an academic or fundraising environment is necessary.
-- Superior communication skills; professional and congenial demeanor and presentation with a high level of motivation, integrity and commitment to the mission and values that support the Ross School.
-- Demonstrated ability to design, direct and manage significant program initiatives.
-- Successful demonstration of initiative, organization, and team orientation and management.
-- Must have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment as well as the demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
-- Must be able to work in fast-paced, demanding and results-oriented environment.
-- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other specialized areas of multimedia.
-- Strong experience in analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategies; ability to conceptualize, develop, implement and assess strategic development activities.
-- Some work may occur on evenings and weekends.

*May be required to travel on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in higher education desired.
