Building Brighter Futures
Through their contributions to academic programs, internships, fellowships and more, U-M philanthropists transform lives. These stories highlight the many ways gifts to Michigan make a lasting impact on students and ultimately on the world in which they will live and work.
Scholarship Inspires Student to Give Back
Donor-created scholarships enabled U-M student Ryan Mack to pursue
his dream of becoming an engineer. They also turned him into a philanthropist.
Galens' deep buckets
Clad in their familiar bright red vest, Galens' medical student volunteer
fundraisers brave chilly winter weather to collect pocket change
and dollar bills from passers-by through an annual bucket drive
on Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti street corners.
Support for student service gives hands-on ways to give back
Since 1990, an organized “Alternative Spring Break” at
Michigan has provided thousands of students with the opportunity to
serve by participating in projects ranging from building new homes
for low-income families in rural Mississippi to tutoring disadvantaged
kids in Colorado to helping hurricane victims in Louisiana.
