It wasn’t just being accepted into the renowned musical theatre program at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) that excited Joseph Serafini (BFA ’20) about coming to the University of Michigan—it was having access to a broad range of academic experiences. With so many options right at his fingertips, Serafini and his friends explored subjects beyond the world of musical theatre that he may not have had the opportunity to at another institution.
At SMTD, Serafini was able to take advantage of the master classes, where students work with artists, agents, producers and other professionals that help shape their career paths. And due to the distinguished nature of U‑M’s musical theatre program—the most competitive on campus for admissions—students are exposed to the best of the best.
Serafini said he’s grateful to the donors that made these uniquely Michigan experiences possible for him.
“Being accepted was so surreal for me, and it was amazing to have the ability to fully commit thanks to my scholarship,” he said.
