Dear friends and donors,
As the full-scale war in Ukraine rages on, the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia continues its commitment to supporting Ukrainian scholars and civil society actors and endeavors to shed light on the conflict’s human cost and its implications for Europe, Eurasia, and beyond. While we have accomplished much together, our work continues, and your support will be critical in our collective efforts.
This academic year, we welcomed award-winner Ukrainian-American photojournalist Joseph Sywenkyj as the WCEE Distinguished Fellow and are exhibiting his poignant photographs of the war’s human toll. Our support continues for our Ukrainian Scholars at Risk Fellows, who are now teaching courses on Ukraine and the war at Michigan. Partnering with the NGO “The Reckoning Project,” we have expanded our contributions from analysis and research to teaching and public outreach through the translation, documentation, and mapping of war crimes in Ukraine.
We continue to organize and fund internships for our undergraduate students throughout the European continent, support graduate and faculty research, organize events that foster an understanding of current events, and promote knowledge about Europe and Eurasia to the entire university community and the public at large. Through our NGO Leadership Workshops, we bring leadership and management best practices to the civil society actors from Ukraine and throughout the region.
None of this work would be possible without the generosity of donors like you, the commitment of our faculty affiliates, the interest of our students, and the enthusiastic engagement of our partners and collaborators across the university and around the world. I hope you will consider making a gift to the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia to continue this vital work. You can stay updated on the center at our website. Thank you for all that you do and I hope to see you this fall.
Sincerely,
Geneviève Zubrzycki
