Each fall, the University of Michigan (U‑M) Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) dedicates a day to undergraduate research. On Friday, September 19, U‑M IOE hosted its third annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, celebrating student research contributions.
The day included remarks from Department Chair Julie Simmons Ivy, faculty and doctoral student research talks and a poster session featuring 16 undergraduate research projects. The posters spanned topics such as GenAI in human factors engineering, improving OB/GYN scheduling and data analytics in soccer.
“The symposium is an important opportunity for students to explore what research in industrial and operations engineering looks like and to appreciate the breadth and scope of the work we do,” said Assistant Professor Oshin Tyagi. “It’s also important to highlight the undergraduate student researchers who have been working so hard in our labs.”
