On Tuesday nights, the newsroom of The Michigan Daily is bustling. A staff of over 600 students are working together to make the deadline for Wednesday’s printed issue. And in its 135-year history, the Daily has never missed a paper.
Behind this work—and crucial to the development of young journalists—is donor support. Gifts of all sizes provide resources and grant opportunities to the Daily’s various beats. The sports section uses funds to send reporters to games, and the copy desk relies on a paid subscription to the AP Stylebook, which gifts help maintain. Donor-funded scholarships give financial assistance to editors, writers, team-wide projects, and more.
Because of consistent donations, the Daily can continue pursuing its mission: to impart trusted, independent journalism to the University of Michigan, the city of Ann Arbor, and Washtenaw County at large.
